The McCue Shaker Collection/ Willis Henry Auction

Hancock Shaker Village, Pittsfield, MA

Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 1:00 pm

Amid torrential downpours and threats of tornado activity, Will Henry calmly and professionally conducted the Drs. Jerry and Miriam McCue Shaker Collection auction in fine spirits. The auction took place in a tent on the grounds of the scenic Hancock Shaker Village.

Bidders and spectators had difficulty hearing the action at times, due to the deafening deluge of rain. Occasionally, Will had to suspend the proceedings until quiet prevailed. However, the crowd patiently waited and the reward was to experience some major bidding on fine examples of early Shaker furniture and accessories. Of special note, was the first piece of furniture Dr. McCue ever saw.  It was a trestle table, slated for the Smithsonian, but, instead, sold to Dr. McCue by Edna Little Greenwood to be the cornerstone of his super Shaker collection. The final bid price was $170,000.
