From Hubener to Medinger: Redware Potters of Southeastern Pennsylvania at Historic Trappe

Another astonishing exhibit at Historic Trappe, Pennsylvania. This time, incredible examples of decorated redware from my own backyard, so to speak, when I was a child.

My family were members of Limerick Chapel. We would drive each Sunday from Sanatoga to Limerick on West Ridge Pike. My young eyes would gaze at the open fields along the way, wondering what could possibly have existed in early times. A lot! Skilled redware potters were scattered about that countryside. Historic Trappe has gathered examples of their wares along with other talented potters from the region. I highly recommend a visit to this exhibit, which continues through March 29, 2026.

Incidentally, the 2025 volume of Americana Insights can be used as a companion catalog to the exhibit. The book is filled with clear images and extensive details concerning the various items presented in the exhibition. A must for those interested in local history and material culture of southeastern Pennsylvania.
