Decades ago, a friend gave me a copy of Colonial Homes Magazine, 1985. On the cover and inside, an article featured residences located in Chestertown, Maryland. The homes ranged from Georgian, Federal to Victorian. This article inspired a bucket list item which years later, I have finally checked.
Chestertown is conveniently located on the Chester River, not far from the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Early merchants built their majestic brick homes on the bank of the river, which made for easy access to their ships. Today, the homes are well preserved private residences. A walking tour pamphlet available at the local Historical Society provides detailed information. We found the town to be charming and delightful. Warm Spring breezes carried intoxicating fragrance of local flowering bushes. Birdsong with wild abandon filled the air. Shop keepers and restaurants were welcoming and friendly. We savored the experience. Below are some of the buildings we found on our tour.
