On our way home from the antiques shows in Manchester, New Hampshire we opted to check out a few of the sites in Southern Vermont that are hosting schoolgirl needlework samplers. This is in conjunction with the Vermont Sampler Driving Tour, a self guided tour in the state of Vermont, where needlework by young women and girls are on display in various locations. This event is to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America and concludes Columbus Day weekend in October, 2025 .

Our first stop, after leaving North Sutton, NH was Woodstock, Vermont. This town was on Charlie’s bucket list and I could see why. A very lovely town, indeed, and the Woodstock History Center is worth a careful visit. We were in a hurry to move along to the other sites, but, I found myself lingering at the doorways of the rooms, longing to take a closer look. We will return, for sure!

After a 1 1/2 hour drive through exquisite mountain scenery we arrived at the Dorset Library. This community library features a small but interesting display of samplers. It was almost as if they were expecting us and directed us immediately to their showcase.

The final stop was our beloved Bennington Museum, which we have visited numerous times. The display of samplers is quite lovely and extensive. The museum itself is a gem, especially the Grandma Moses room. Definitely worth a visit.
